About

The American Culinary Federation of Iowa has been serving the state of Iowa since 1999. We are one of the fastest growing chapters in the continental United States, with more than 75 members and a commitment to continued growth and professional standards. We are a local group of chef professionals working with local business and related industries to help fund culinary education, helping to put a stop to childhood hunger, and instill professionalism and teamwork throughout our industry.

Leadership: Our chapter President, Chef Benjamin Whitmore, CSC has worked tirelessly to promote our work and add to both the quantity and quality of our group. Voted Chef of the Year in 2007 and helping to create 50% growth during the same year, Chef Whitmore is seriously dedicated to the future of our chapter.

Teamwork: Just as we work as a team in our respective kitchens, teamwork among chapter members is the standard. Outstanding professional craftspeople, working together to promote professional standards that the ACF promotes and requires, in a tireless fashion that benefits so many others. Students, instructors, chefs, and cooks alike benefit from the work being done here in Iowa.

Envisioning the Future: Relish Magazine calls Des Moines the new culinary Mecca and the fact is that Iowans are embracing good food and wine like at no other time in the state’s history. Home to 4 ACF accredited culinary programs, Iowa’s local “farm to fork” and Slow Food Movements combine to set the stage for a bright future for new cooks and restaurant supporters alike! The American Culinary Federation of Iowa is helping to unite chefs, cooks, and their supporters and bring recognition to the hard work that our industry is providing for a strong economy in our state.
